Twin Lakes Band Earns State “All-Music” Award
The Indiana State School Music Association has initiated a program of recognition for outstanding high school music organizations in the State of Indiana. ISSMA serves over 385 high schools in the State and only 28 bands were selected. The Twin Lakes High School Band “The Spirit of Twin Lakes” is the recipient of this honor for the 2008-2009. This marks the 7th year in a row that the Twin Lakes Band Program has been presented with this prestigious award.
The “All-Music Award” is presented in the Spring to exceptional bands that have met or exceeded a list of requirements that include demands from all aspects of the band department.
The following criteria must be met to be selected for this award: the band must receive a first division rating at District Marching Band. (The Twin Lakes band not only received a first division rating at District competition, but also received a first at Regional competition.); the band must have one soloist and one ensemble performing in Group I that qualifies for State Solo and Ensemble contest. (This year the Twin Lakes band had twelve soloists and 7 ensembles, totaling over sixty students that qualified for State Solo and Ensemble contest.); the band must have a Gold rating in Jazz Organizational contest. (The Twin Lakes Jazz Band received such a rating for the 26th straight year.); and, in addition, the Concert band must have a Gold rating in the High School Organizational contest. (This year, the concert band received a Gold, or first place rating for the 22st consecutive year).
The band is directed by Chuck Kubly. Joey Boyer is the Assistant Director.
